What Is NVIDIA JetPack 6.2? How It Boosts Jetson Orin AI Performance

What is JetPack SDK?

What is Jetpack 6?
JetPack 6 introduces enhanced flexibility by allowing support for upstream Linux kernels and a broader selection of Linux distributions provided by Jetson ecosystem partners. It also enables independent updates of the Jetson AI Stack without requiring changes to the Jetson Linux BSP.
What is JetPack 6.2 and What’s New?
JetPack 6.2 is the newest stable release in NVIDIA’s JetPack 6 series, tailored for Jetson platforms. This version includes Jetson Linux 36.4.3, built on Linux Kernel 5.15 and an Ubuntu 22.04-based root file system. It also comes preloaded with the updated Jetson AI software stack—featuring CUDA 12.6, TensorRT 10.3, cuDNN 9.3, VPI 3.2, DLA 3.1, and DLFW 24.0.
A key highlight of this release is the introduction of Super Mode a high-power performance setting now available for Jetson Orin Nano and Orin NX modules. This mode delivers up to 2× faster inference for generative AI models and transformer-based applications.

1. Super Mode: Accelerated AI Inference Performance
JetPack 6.2 introduces Super Performance Mode for Jetson Orin Nano and Orin NX modules, providing:
- Dynamic optimization of CPU and GPU frequencies for sustained, high-throughput processing
- Significant performance gains in real-time inferencing—achieving up to 2× faster results for workloads like large language models (LLMs), vision-language models (VLMs), and computer vision transformers
2. Updated Operating System & Expanded Distro Support
With this release, JetPack 6.2 brings the latest Jetson Linux (36.4.3), delivering:
- Up-to-date kernel (v5.15) and Ubuntu 22.04 base, offering improved compatibility, security patches, and system stability
- Broader Linux distro support, now enabling the use of any upstream kernel version 5.14 or newer, giving developers greater flexibility in customizing their software environments
3. Enhanced Libraries and Tools for Developers
JetPack 6.2 includes a refreshed suite of tools and frameworks to accelerate edge AI development:
- TensorRT 10.3 – Optimized for newer TensorFlow and PyTorch models, with reduced latency and improved throughput
- CUDA 12.6 & cuDNN 9.3 – Deliver faster math computations, especially for transformer-based networks
- VPI 3.2 – Enhances stereo depth mapping and visual processing for vision-based AI tasks

4. Security & Camera System Improvements
JetPack 6.2 also brings essential updates in system protection and camera processing:
- Security: Adds support for firmware-based TPM (fTPM) on Jetson AGX Orin (T234 SoC), and includes patches for known vulnerabilities
- Camera: Optimizations in the Argus library significantly reduce CPU load during image capture up to 40% lower usage
